The Chicago Blackhawks could look to another Original Six franchise in order to acquire some depth for a playoff push down the stretch.

The Chicago Blackhawks are looking to be a team that regains the steam that they went into the bye week with. They were defeated in the final game before the break by Joel Quenneville‘s Floria Panthers, but that snapped a five-game winning streak. They have been playing very well in the final weeks leading up to the break which makes it possible that this team pushes for a playoff spot. If they become buyers at the deadline, they would just be looking to add some depth.

The Montreal Canadiens are a team that got off to a good start this season but they have fallen way off. They are likely not going to the playoffs this season so if the Hawks want to try and make it they can look at them for some depth help. Montreal has a few pending restricted free agents that they might be looking to move before the trade deadline so they can start preparing for next season.

They have some contract issues as their highest-paid players are all aging players that aren’t getting it done. One of them is their goalie Carey Price who has a cap hit north of ten million dollars. The Blackhawks have some messy contracts but at least their guys have won it all for them before. They are also getting a little bit more out of their highly paid players right now. It is no guarantee that the Blackhawks are going to be buyers, but if they are then these three Montreal Canadiens would be solid depth options:
