1. Fills arguably biggest need

You don’t have to be a die-hard Bears fan to know just how bad the tight end group was in 2019. This was one of the most forgettable seasons by a tight end room in recent history — and we’re talking across the entire NFL.

It got to be such a train wreck that the Bears were bringing up guys off the practice squad and fans got excited every time they caught the ball. I’m looking at you, Jesper Horsted — and by the way, he better be back on the roster in 2020.

For goodness’ sake, the Bears brought in a guy cut by the Washington Redskins — and if you know anything about Jordan Reed, you know the Redskins need depth there. Once again, fans loved seeing that man make plays.

You bet I’m talking about J.P. Holtz, who led the Bears in total yards at the position with 91 — yes, 91. Remember when I said this was a train wreck?

Olsen is lightyears ahead of any option the Bears have on the current roster, and I think the Bears would still be wise to draft somebody at tight end. The only caveat, though, is that if they bring in Olsen, it makes it more acceptable for Ryan Pace to snag a guy in the mid-to-late rounds instead of solely looking at a second-round guy, like many fans want.

If not Olsen via free agency, there are other options, of course. But, I’ve always remained a fan and like what he offers at the position, even though he’s up there in age.
