Some believe in Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, while others do not. Would Cam Newton be an upgrade? A notable source thinks so.

There is a whole heck of a lot that’s about to be unleashed with just a few words. Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Pace has already committed to his quarterback for 2020 in Mitchell Trubisky. But, another option might become available if the Carolina Panthers decide to part with veteran Cam Newton.

Already, the Panthers have decided to mutually part ways with tight end Greg Olsen. During Super Bowl week, you never know what kind of moves will be made. Obviously, we’re all ready for the big game this weekend, but the news just keeps coming — at least, if you’re a Bears or Panthers fan, that is.

Thursday, on ESPN 1000 Chicago, Marc “Silvy” Silverman dropped quite the piece of information on us. He was talking about a time, just a few weeks after the Bears played the Chiefs this past season, where a certain Chiefs player offered him an opinion.

Silvy said that this was a player people would know; someone obviously more notable and respected, I would be led to believe.

“He’s a prominent defensive player on that team,” Silvy said.

According to Silvy, this player asked him if he thought the Bears were going to get Cam Newton over the offseason. Silvy replied saying he didn’t think so, but that he would love it. The player’s reply to Silvy was a pretty strong one:

"“I think you guys are gonna get Cam. I don’t think your coach trusts Trubisky.”"

Silvy went on to say that he did not bring up Trubisky at all. The opinion from this unnamed Chiefs player was “unsolicited,” according to Silvy, which is pretty eye-opening.

More from Chicago Bears

There is a lot to unpack here, obviously. First off, this implies that the Panthers will end up cutting Newton in order to save the cash. It seems unlikely that this player was talking about a trade.

Second, the fact that this player believes Nagy doesn’t trust Trubisky is very, very intriguing. I would love to know who this player is, because I’m sure he has a relationship with Nagy. The fact that Silvy didn’t give away this player’s identity would lead most to believe that he played for the Chiefs while Nagy was still there a couple of years back.

Maybe that’s reading too far into the situation, but it makes sense, doesn’t it?

Not all players know everything about other organizations, coaches and players, of course. But, this small piece of information is so hot that it could light all of Bears social media on fire. Fans are sure to be in an uproar over these few words spoken by a player they don’t even know the identity of.

The question everyone else is wondering, now, is whether or not this guy knows something we don’t. Does Nagy, in fact, distrust Trubisky? It wouldn’t surprise me in the least, since it was not Nagy’s decision to draft Trubisky in the first place.

Nagy came a year after Trubisky. He ended up scaling back the offense for Trubisky, since there were obvious limitations.

Does Newton in Chicago make sense? How much would the Bears be willing to pay? Would there be a competition?

There are a lot of questions, and I’m sure they will keep coming until Newton finds a home — assuming the Panthers cut ties with him, as well.
