Chicago Bears: 5 defensive free agents to cut ties with
By Ryan Heckman
2. Safety Deon Bush
This was a fairly easy decision, and not because Deon Bush is not worth keeping on the roster. In fact, it’s quite the contrary. Bush has improved drastically since entering the league back in 2016.
There have been times where Bush has had to step in and play due to injuries ahead of him, and the defense has rarely missed a beat. He’s become one of those preseason standouts who is actually a valuable asset — not fool’s gold. Rarely do you watch guys in the preseason and see them become truly valuable, but Bush is one of them.
As a free agent this year, Bush will very likely be able to sign somewhere else as a starter. There is definitely a possibility he sticks around and fills the vacancy left if the Bears move on from Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, but Bush may end up being too expensive in the end.
Pace certainly has a predicament at the safety position, especially because many would like to see Eddie Jackson moved back to free safety. If that’s the case, he needs to go after someone who could theoretically become their new Adrian Amos. Could Bush stick around and be that guy? Maybe. But, again, he will likely be too expensive to keep.
