Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Pace has some decisions to make on the team’s own free agents.

A year ago, if you told me cap space was going to be a major issue for the Chicago Bears in the offseason of 2020, I wouldn’t have cared a whole lot. The Bears were coming off an NFC North title and playoff berth, with little holes in their roster.

The Bears were going to be even better in 2019. This was a roster that was set to win a Super Bowl. So what if they didn’t have much cap space in 2020? They’re locked and loaded as a playoff contender, right?

Fast forward to the present, and things have changed quite a bit.

The Bears missed the playoffs this past season with a record of 8-8, and now, general manager Ryan Pace has a challenge ahead of him.

This offseason is going to be a tough one for multiple reasons. First, Pace is stuck with limited draft capital in the 2020 NFL Draft. The Bears are without a first-round or third-round pick. Thankfully, Pace has two second-rounders to work with. But, the lack of a first or third is going to hurt.

Second, the Bears aren’t going to have a lot of money to work with. They may end up having to cut guys like Leonard Floyd, Prince Amukamara, Taylor Gabriel, among other options.

Pace also has a few of his own free agents to decide on. Obviously, he won’t be able to bring them all back — nor should he. On the defensive side, there are a few guys I would like to see the Bears move on from; five in particular. Let’s go through them one by one, real quick.
