Not firing Jeremy Colliton

The Chicago Blackhawks should have never fired head coach Joel Quenneville. With that said, it was clearly Stan Bowman’s “get out of jail free card”. When he fired Joel it prolonged his stay in Chicago because of course, he was going to be given time to prove himself with a new coach. He replaced him with then Rockford Ice Hogs head coach Jeremy Colliton.

Colliton has had to do something so hard. He had to come in and replace the best coach that the franchise has ever had and one of the top two or three coaches the city has ever seen. He got booed for basically just existing. He did nothing wrong but fans didn’t want to see anyone other than Joel Quenneville. He has realistically, done a good job for what he has been given.

Stan still might have a job because of his decision to not fire Colliton when things were tough during the 2019-20 season. That might have been it for him though because it would have shown that the roster is so flawed two coaches couldn’t do anything with it. Since those struggles, Colliton has the Blackhawks right back on the bubble of the playoffs in the Western Conference.

There are no guarantees for anything the rest of the way for the Chicago Blackhawks. The first few weeks following the bye week are going to be very telling about their future. Stan Bowman could be the first casualty if they end up missing the big dance, but as of right now these three moves have saved his job.
