The Chicago Cubs have yet to make an impact addition this offseason, but these three still-available free agents have the chance to be key contributors in 2020.

If you haven’t been paying much attention to the Chicago Cubs this winter, well, you haven’t missed anything.

No really – you truly didn’t miss anything.

After a couple of stagnant years with star players remaining unsigned for most of the winter, MLB free agency returned to form this offseason, with impact players flying off the board early and often. Although the market as a whole saw a lot of action, none of it took place on the North Side of Chicago. In fact, even with the month of January nearly over, the Cubs have yet to sign a free agent to an MLB deal.

So far, the Cubs “biggest” acquisitions this offseason include Hernan Perez, Dan Winkler, Casey Sadler, Alfonso Rivas, and Trevor Megill.

As I said, you really didn’t miss anything.

Without any new notable players joining the roster, most of the talk coming out of Wrigleyville has centered on Kris Bryant‘s service-time grievance with the Cubs, trade rumors, and the team’s new media endeavor Marquee Sports Network.

With those less-than-exciting items headlining the Cubs’ offseason, it’s no surprise that fans’ hopes for the 2020 season are grim at the moment, but the front office has an opportunity to change that. The Cubs already talented roster can still be improved through free agency, even though Spring Training is just around the corner, however it will require ownership to open their pocketbook.

To restore excitement in the fan base and revitalize the roster, the Cubs’ front office should target these three free agents.
