Chicago Bears: Defensive prospects to watch at Senior Bowl
By Usayd Koshul
2. S Ashtyn Davis, California
Let’s face the facts when it comes to the safety position for the Bears: Outside of Eddie Jackson, it’s not really known who’s going to be a starter in the Bears defensive backfield in 2020. While the Bears could bring back both Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Deon Bush, the money that the Bears could spend on them can also be spent in other places.
This is why it’s especially important to keep an eye on California Safety Ashtyn Davis. When it comes to talking about safeties for the 2020 NFL Draft, everyone has their eyes on players like Grant Delpit and Xavier McKinney, however, Davis is a name that could quickly rise up draft boards with a strong week in Mobile.
All throughout 2019, Davis showcased range, physicality, and a willingness to tackle that will translate over well at the next level. Another really interesting thing about Davis is that during his time at California, he was placed all over the field, sometimes seen as taking snaps from the slot.
When it comes to production in terms of interceptions, Davis has just seven interceptions over a three-year period however he’s also got 12 pass breakups. As of right now, Davis seems like a round two talent and if drafted by the Bears, he’ll be starting next to Eddie Jackson for years to come.
