Chicago Bears 2020 NFL Mock Draft: Quarterback, tight end issues solved
By Ryan Heckman
With their last pick in this year’s draft, the Bears address the EDGE position with another familiar face to fans in Illinois. Joe Gaziano out of Northwestern could be a bit of a project, but would be able to come in and contribute right away on special teams and, if need be, as a rotational pass rusher.
We have yet to know what Pace will do regarding the status of Leonard Floyd, but my guess is that the team chooses to revamp the entire position to build more rushers around Khalil Mack. Gaziano would be a nice addition, especially in the seventh round.
Over his last three seasons, Gaziano has been as consistent as you would want from a pass rusher. His numbers won’t blow you away, but consistency has been his key. In the last three campaigns, Gaziano has posted 9.0, 7.5 and 9.0 sacks respectively. In addition, he’s given Northwestern five, three and five pass breakups over those years. He’s also finished with double-digit tackles for loss in all three of those seasons as well, totaling 42.5 (49.0 in his career).
Considering neither of the Bears’ seventh-round picks stuck from last year, Gaziano would be a much better bet to hang around, assuming he’s available. The 6-foot-4, 275-pound Northwestern product may go a little higher than the seventh, but would be a strong selection if he’s there at 210.
