This guy may be familiar to those in Chicago, as he is a former Big Ten standout. Nate Sudfeld was a sixth round selection back in the 2016 NFL Draft, coming out of Indiana University. Funny enough, he was drafted by the Washington Redskins, but is more known for his time in Philadelphia, as minor as it may be.

Sudfeld never made any type of impact in Washington because he was inactive for his entire rookie season while sitting behind Kirk Cousins and Colt McCoy. Following his rookie season, he was cut by the Redskins and scooped up by the Philadelphia Eagles.

DeFilippo got a chance to work with Sudfeld over the course of his 2017 season, where he received the most action he’s had as a pro. Sudfeld appeared in one game that year, going 19 of 23 (impressive efficiency) for 134 yards (not the ideal yardage total for 19 completions).

Must Read. Bears: Josiah Deguara would be a draft steal at TE. light

Sudfeld hasn’t had a ton of experience, appearing in just three games during his career. But, this would be more of a move to find a new backup quarterback. Sudfeld wouldn’t be enormous competition for Trubisky (at least, one would assume), yet he would give Chicago a cheaper option as a backup who offers some potential, still.

The one thing I like about Sudfeld is that he stands 6-foot-5. He has ideal size for an NFL quarterback, and the fact he has experience with DeFilippo would make me comfortable with the Bears bringing him in to compete for a backup job.
