Chicago Bears: 4 quarterback options linked to DeFilippo, Lazor
By Ryan Heckman
Could the Chicago Bears end up adding a quarterback this offseason to compete with Mitchell Trubisky?
Some say it’s a must, while others argue Mitchell Trubisky is still the future of the Chicago Bears. There really is no in-between, these days. The Bears always seem to be in the midst of some kind of quarterback conversation or controversy.
Since the days of Rex Grossman, moving forward to Kyle Orton and then Jay Cutler, there has never been a solidified starting quarterback in Chicago. You can argue that Trubisky’s 2018 season could be considered a good season, but does he really count as having the position “solidified?”
I don’t think so, and if we’re being honest, general manager Ryan Pace needs to fix the position — and fast.
If Pace doesn’t find a solution at quarterback, this may be his last year with the Bears.
He’s already made a few moves in order to overhaul the offensive staff this offseason. Pace brought in former Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Bill Lazor to take on the same role in Chicago. He also recently hired John DeFilippo to come in and serve as the Bears’ quarterbacks coach, which moves Dave Ragone to the passing game coordinator.
With these two new guys in town, how will plans change at the quarterback position, if at all? Will Pace look to these two, along with Matt Nagy, for some direction? I think it would be wise to do so, even if it means backtracking on his comments about Trubisky being the unquestioned starter for 2020.
Lazor and DeFilippo have been around several quarterbacks over the last decade, but most recently there are a few names which the Bears could actually pursue. What quarterbacks could be on the table for the Bears this offseason? Better question: Which potentially available quarterbacks have experience with either Lazor or DeFilippo? Let’s look at a few.
