Chicago Bulls: Denzel Valentine on trade block is a great sign
By Ryan Heckman
About a month before the trade deadline, and the Chicago Bulls are amidst rumors to have one particular player on the block.
At 14-26, you would think the Chicago Bulls were totally out of any playoff conversation. But, the Eastern Conference is heavy at the top and, after the sixth seed, it’s anybody’s game.
Currently, the Bulls are the 10th seed out East. It does seem silly to talk about Chicago making moves in order to improve the roster for a run at the playoffs this season, but I wouldn’t rule it out just yet.
There have been recent reports saying the Bulls are set to make enormous changes to their front office later this year. So, with that in mind, it wouldn’t be shocking to see Gar Forman and John Paxson give it one more college try before this year’s trade deadline.
Lately, you’ll see plenty of rumors out there regarding the deadline — and some include the Bulls. Today brought another nugget of information concerning the Bulls.
The Chicago Sun Times came out with a report saying that the Bulls “would jump” to make a deal involving swingman Denzel Valentine.
Valentine, a former first-round pick out of Michigan State, has found himself out of the rotation as of late, and he isn’t happy about it. The former Spartan is averaging just 6.0 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game on just over 12 minutes played.
He is, however, shooting the three ball at a 38.7 percent clip, which could entice a contender looking to add a three-point shooter.
The fact that the Bulls would be excited to trade Valentine is a great sign that this front office wants to be involved in making moves before the trade deadline. At this point, fans would just like to see a decent effort at improving the roster.
Whether or not that means improving it this year, or by adding draft picks, doesn’t matter. I think I speak for all fans when I say I want to see this organization give an effort; for Forman and/or Paxson to make their (hopefully) limited time left count.
Hopefully, a Valentine trade only kickstarts a series of moves. Maybe they try to get a strong return for a guy like Zach LaVine. Maybe, they move Thaddeus Young, who was reportedly not happy with his role — like Valentine.
Regardless of who they trade, I do believe the Bulls need to make some moves. Make a couple and see what happens. At this point, there isn’t much else to lose aside from more games.
