Chicago Bears: Texans vs. Chiefs is a nightmare for fans
The Chicago Bears made a franchise-altering mistake in 2017 and it is going to be waved right in our face during the NFL divisional playoff round.
The Chicago Bears are not in the playoffs. They were 12-4 in 2018 and had similar expectations going into the 2019 season. They saw some regression at a lot of positions but one of the biggest ones is that of quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. He was not very good at all in 2019, and now most people believe that he is not the guy going forward. They are going to do their due diligence on making this right, we hope, but it is clear that a franchise-altering mistake was made in 2017.
The 2017 NFL Draft had three quarterbacks projected to go in the top 15. The Bears had the third overall pick in the draft and it was clear they needed one with the departure of Jay Cutler. They made a trade with the San Francisco 49ers to move up one pick and selected Mitchell Trubisky with the second overall pick. That is the mistake that has them in the spot they are currently in.
The other two guys available turned out to be pretty good. The Kansas City Chiefs selected Patrick Mahomes with the 10th overall pick and the Houston Texans took Deshaun Watson with the 12th overall pick. Mahomes has an NFL MVP under his belt in a season that he threw for 50 touchdowns. He was the best player in the draft and you can argue he is the best quarterback in the National Football League.
Watson is a National Champion with Clemson University and he isn’t far behind Mahomes in terms of skill. The Bears could have had both but instead, they have Trubisky.
This is a problem now for fans because these two are going to play each other with a slot on Championship Sunday on the line. The Texans and Chiefs meeting each other will be the Sunday afternoon game. There is bound to be a lot of graphics showing exactly how the 2017 NFL Draft went.
The announcers are sure to mock the Bears for selecting Trubisky with Watson and Mahomes still on the board. Bears fans don’t want to hear it but the options are: Deal with it or don’t watch the NFL Playoffs.
We all want to watch the NFL Playoffs, right? So we are just going to have to deal with it.
This has been a narrative for a few seasons now and it isn’t going away any time soon. This has become a nightmare narrative for Bears fans across the world. It is going to get better before it gets worse because whoever wins this game will have a chance to play for a berth in the Super Bowl. It is going to be thrown in their faces for the next decade or more, and that’s no fun. Hopefully, the Bears figure out a way to make it right, and soon.
