Chicago Bulls: 3 buzz-worthy trades to consider making
By Ryan Heckman
Trade No. 2
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been a mess this season. After a promising start with an above .500 record, the Wolves fell fast and hard, now looking in at the playoff race. The hottest topic in Minnesota, for a while, has been the displeasure of star big man Karl-Anthony Towns. But, in this case, we focus on wing Robert Covington who has been drawing interest.
The Bulls would get Covington and the expiring contract of point guard Jeff Teague to go with a future second-round pick. In exchange, Chicago would send Minnesota Otto Porter Jr. (who has an option this summer and is then a free agent in 2021), Ryan Arcidiacono and a 2021 first-round pick.
For the Bulls, they shed a lot salary here while getting a solid 3-and-D player in the process. Covington is definitely a more physical player who brings an edge the Bulls have lacked for a few years.
When Teague enters free agency this summer, that opens up another $19 million in space for Chicago. If they had kept Porter, who has underwhelmed when on the court this season, he could opt into another year worth over $28 million.
The Wolves, meanwhile, get a guy in Porter who can be a strong offensive contributor — as soon as he’s back from injury.
