Chicago Bears: 3 reasons Tom Brady is a fit
The Chicago Bears need a quarterback and Tom Brady may be an option. Is there a fit?
With the Chicago Bears likely to address the quarterback position in some form this offseason, an intriguing option may have become available after the results of Wildcard Weekend.
After the New England Patriots loss to the Tennessee Titans on Saturday night against the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Wild Card playoff game, speculation began instantly that the loss marked the beginning of the end of the Patriots dynasty.
An end that may even include Patriots’ starting quarterback Tom Brady leaving the team via free agency as he is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on March 18. Brady, 42, is expected to command a lucrative contract in the event that Patriots opt not to re-sign the 6-time Super Bowl champion.
We have been down this road before. It seems as if during the past three seasons, there has been constant speculation regarding Brady’s future. Will Brady retire? Will Brady re-sign with the Patriots? Will Brady end his career in a city other than New England?
Brady has squashed those rumors by re-signing to team-friendly contacts with the Patriots that allowed the team to prioritize other areas.
However, this offseason feels slightly different.
Brady has often had no reason to second-guess his team-first mentality as the Patriots have always loaded the roster with talent on both the offensive side and defensive side. This season, while the Patriots did boast an impressive defense, the offense left a lot to be desired. To sum it up, it was Brady, wide receiver Julian Edelman and the land of misfits.
At the age of 42, Brady, who has already entered the “greatest quarterback to ever play” conversation, is likely playing due to his desire to add to his Super Bowl legacy. Meaning if the Patriots are not going to re-tool to the roster to return to being of Super Bowl-caliber, Brady may forgo his trend of re-signing to a team-friendly deal and seek a championship elsewhere.
If Brady were to hit the open market, it is clear that he would be looking for a team that already has the tools in place to win a Super Bowl with the only missing piece being competent quarterback play.
Enter the Chicago Bears.
If Brady does hit the open market in March, there is no question that the Bears will be mentioned as a potential suitor for the Patriots’ quarterback. There are three reasons why the Bears are a perfect fit for Brady.
