Derek Carr, Oakland Raiders

This one is a bit of a wildcard, but let me explain.

I will start with a question: Is Jon Gruden really committed to Derek Carr going forward? If you ask Raiders fans, I’m sure you’d get a lot of different answers and opinions. I would bet there is a solid majority who want to see the team move on from Carr and draft a replacement.

More from Da Windy City

If you look around, there are several outlets who think the same. Recently, NBC Sports Bay Area did a piece on why the Raiders should look at snagging Oregon’s Justin Herbert in the upcoming draft.

Our friends over at Golden Gate Sports have also looked at a plethora of mock drafts analyzing several of them which have the Raiders taking a quarterback in the first round.

So, if the Raiders do indeed decide on going quarterback in the first round, what does that mean for Carr? Ideally, if I’m a Raiders fan, I would want Carr to stick around and any rookie quarterback drafted to sit a year or so. Oakland has a lot of youngsters on that team and can afford to let a rookie sit.

But, what if another team offered the Raiders a pick for Carr? Now, it gets interesting.

How high of a pick would the Bears have to offer the Raiders, though? That’s the question. As a Bears fan, I would actually be fine with the Bears offering a future third-round pick for Carr (they do not own a third rounder this year). If the Bears keep the core intact, Carr could help elevate this team to a real playoff run in the near future.
