Chicago Bears: 6 non-playoff quarterbacks to trade for
By Ryan Heckman
Tyrod Taylor, Los Angeles Chargers
I’ll admit, I’ve been a Tyrod Taylor fan for quite some time now. Dating back to his time with the Buffalo Bills, I have seen the potential in this guy. I know he’s now 30 years old, but I still believe in him.
Back in 2015, Taylor had his best season as a pro. It was his first year with the Bills and also his only Pro Bowl nod. That season, Taylor finished with 3,035 yards passing, 20 touchdowns and just six picks. He also added 568 yards on the ground and four rushing scores.
The Chargers are in an intriguing situation with Philip Rivers. To this point, we don’t know whether Rivers will be back with Los Angeles next year or playing for another team. He could also decide to call it a career and announce his retirement. Either way, it feels like the Chargers will be in on quarterbacks this coming draft.
So, where does that leave Taylor? He has one more year on his two-year contract with the Chargers, and I’m sure he could be had for a relatively cheap price. If Taylor came in to compete with Trubisky, I don’t think it would take long for him to take over the starting job.
Here’s a fun fact about Taylor: He has never thrown more than six interceptions in an entire season. Over his career, he has attempted 1,362 passes — only 20 of them have been picked off. That’s a 1.5 percent ratio.
