Chicago Bears: Top 3 candidates for next offensive coordinator
By Ryan Heckman
2. Kellen Moore, Offensive Coordinator, Dallas Cowboys
Now that the Cowboys have hired Mike McCarthy, the big question is whether or not offensive coordinator Kellen Moore will be kept. The Cowboys failed to make the playoffs in the lowly NFC East this past season, but it wasn’t all on the offense. Dallas’ defense fell flat on its face in meeting expectations this year.
Offensively, Moore led the Cowboys to the league’s no. 1 offense overall. Dallas averaged 431.5 yards per game — more than 20 yards higher than the second place Baltimore Ravens. Dallas was no. 2 in the league in passing (over 296 yards per game) and fifth in rushing (over 134 yards per game).
Going into the season, one of the biggest questions around Dallas and their offense was whether or not Dak Prescott was worth a long-term deal. Could he live up to the money he was asking for? Prescott answered the bell, thanks to Moore’s scheme. Prescott enjoyed a career year, throwing for 4,902 yards and 30 touchdowns, with only 11 picks.
Moore coming to Chicago would ideally mean the Bears offensive would be balanced. Dallas ran the ball 449 times this year as opposed to 597 passes — about a 57 percent pass and 43 percent run ratio.
