Chicago Bears: Top 3 candidates for next offensive coordinator
By Ryan Heckman
1. Mike Kafka, Quarterbacks Coach, Kansas City Chiefs
Is that a Northwestern uniform? It sure is. Former Northwestern and NFL veteran quarterback Mike Kafka is currently coaching up Patrick Mahomes with the Kansas City Chiefs, but would be a great option as the Bears’ new offensive coordinator.

On one hand, it’s kind of ironic. Kakfa has spent time with the one guy Bears fans with they would have drafted over Mitchell Trubisky, and now he’s an option to come coach the latter in Chicago. Really, it’s quite the storyline, especially given Kafka’s ties to the state of Illinois with being a Northwestern alum.
In my opinion, Kafka is kind of a wildcard because you really don’t know how good he can be as an offensive coordinator. Having Mahomes makes things quite a lot easier on a coordinator, because he makes plenty of plays on his own regardless of scheme. Mahomes is just that good.
But, coming from an Andy Reid coaching tree like Nagy makes Kafka an interesting potential hire. Kafka is already rumored to be the next offensive coordinator for the Chiefs if they lose current OC Eric Bieniemy. With a lot of the coaching hires already in place, Bieniemy may not be leaving the Chiefs after all, though, which makes Kafka fair game.
