Alex Smith, via Trade
Some folks forget about Alex Smith, who was supposed to be the guy in Washington for at least 2019 while Dwayne Haskins was worked into his development. Of course, we all know Smith suffered a potentially career-ending leg injury and has had several surgeries to repair the damage.
This is one big ‘if,’ but, if Smith gets healthy and is cleared to play football once more he would make a fantastic trade target. The best part about Chicago potentially trading for him is that he wouldn’t cost much more than maybe a conditional pick.
If Alex Smith can play football in 2020, I would expect it to be in Chicago.

This isn’t just a bold prediction or a farfetched idea. There are certainly people like Bill Zimmerman, with connections to the organization, who believe Smith could land in Chicago.
Smith most recently played for the Kansas City Chiefs where Nagy was his offensive coordinator. Knowing Nagy’s offense already, and proving he can perform within it, should serve as reason enough for the Bears to attempt to deal for him. He had his career-best season under Nagy back in 2017 when he threw for over 4,000 yards and tossed 26 touchdowns to just five picks.
Fun fact about Smith: He hasn’t thrown double-digit interceptions in a season since 2010.
Next. Bears: Unrealistic New Year's resolutions for Chicago. dark
Obviously, Smith wouldn’t be a long-term solution due to age and health concerns, but with a roster that’s built to win soon, he could be the guy to take them over the top.
