Chicago Bears: Under-the-radar quarterback options for 2020
By Ryan Heckman
Sam Ehlinger, NFL Draft
Junior quarterback Sam Ehlinger is someone who would make for an excellent developmental pick if the Bears wanted someone to sit behind Trubisky for a year. In three years at Texas, Ehlinger has improved tremendously.
In 2019, Ehlinger finished with 3,663 yards and 32 touchdowns, to just 10 interceptions. He also completed over 65 percent of his passes. Most recently, he and the Longhorns took down Utah in the Alamo Bowl. Ehlinger totaled three passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown (to go with 73 yards on the ground) in a route.
What would Ehlinger in Chicago mean?
If the Bears snagged Ehlinger in the mid-to-late rounds of the draft, he would certainly have to be in their future plans. Ehlinger is a dual-threat quarterback, which we know Matt Nagy likes and can use. Assuming Trubisky is the starter, Ehlinger would be a candidate to sit as the primary backup unless the Bears carried three quarterbacks — which you already know I’m a strong advocate for.
