Chicago Bears: Under-the-radar quarterback options for 2020
By Ryan Heckman
Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Pace wants us to believe they are rolling with Mitchell Trubisky in 2020, but he’d better bring in some competition.
In his end-of-the-season press conference, Ryan Pace said what he felt like he needed to say. The Chicago Bears will be sticking with Mitchell Trubisky as their starting quarterback going into 2020, according to Pace.
Go ahead, start the booing.
It’s hard to swallow that pill as a Bears fan. Realistically, sure, Trubisky will be the starter. But, the least Pace could do is say that he will look at other options to come in and compete with the kid. At least say that they will look at every position on the roster and try to improve.
There are several things Pace could have said to go along with his Trubisky nugget in order to calm the nerves of Bears fans everywhere, but he pretty much stuck with that. It’s going to be Trubisky or bust in 2020 — or is it?
Pace has historically sounded wishy-washy at times, so maybe the whole “sticking with Trubisky” thing isn’t the end-all, be-all scenario. If I’m a betting man, I would guarantee you the Bears will either bring in a veteran quarterback to push Trubisky and serve as a more competent backup — or, they will draft a guy in the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft.
Heck, maybe they do both. But, I don’t think Pace is going to find himself content with putting all his chips in on Trubisky, especially when this is such a crucial offseason for he and the Bears.
Most of us know some of the big names which could be available either via free agency or trade; i.e. Cam Newton, Andy Dalton, Philip Rivers, etc. But, what about some of the guys (draft included) who aren’t getting as much talk in reference to the Bears? Let’s look at a few of those, shall we?
