Chicago Bulls: 3 blockbuster trade packages with Minnesota Timberwolves
By Ryan Heckman
Trade No. 3
The irony of these trade packages is hilarious, because in all three, the Wolves would be getting at least one player in return whom they traded to the Bulls almost three years ago. This time, the Wolves would get the player whom the Bulls selected with the no. 7 pick given to them in that deal, Markkanen.
Along with Markkanen and Valentine, the Bulls would send Kris Dun back to the Wolves. Maybe a second go-around in Minnesota would serve Dunn better. The Timberwolves will be looking for point guard help with Teague becoming a free agent this summer, and Dunn is a cheap option for the short-term.
On the Bulls’ end, they would receive Covington and a first-round pick. The hope for Minnesota would be trying to keep Towns happy by pairing him with Markkanen, another recent, high lottery pick.
Chicago is nearly at the point where they need to start a whole new rebuild, and maybe this helps kickstart that process. Markkanen has not been anywhere near where the Bulls had hoped he would be in his third year, but maybe that has a lot to do with coaching and the style of the offense.
Maybe, Jerry Reinsdorf finally figures out the problem is with Boylen, Gar Forman and John Paxson and truly cleans house sometime soon — or maybe that’s a Bulls fan hoping for an unrealistic scenario.
Either way, the Bulls might do themselves well by making a move before the deadline. Would any of these come to fruition? It’s probably more unlikely than likely, but for the sake of conversation, these deals certainly are intriguing.
