Chicago Bears: 5 potential free agent adds from Wildcard weekend
By Ryan Heckman
If the Chicago Bears are to get back to the playoffs this next season, what better way than adding guys from current playoff teams?
The 2019 NFL Playoffs kick off this weekend, and unfortunately, the Chicago Bears will be watching from home. You better believe, though, that general manager Ryan Pace will be paying attention. For some players, this will be the last game they get to show what they can offer teams as impending free agents.
The Bears are going to have to add a few pieces this offseason in order to get back to the playoffs next season. With the core in place and guys like Khalil Mack, Allen Robinson, Akiem Hicks and Eddie Jackson leading the locker room, there is a strong chance that Chicago can get back into the postseason quickly.
Some of the areas they need to fill, though, are crucial. One of the most notable spots that needs fixing is within the trenches. Chicago has to do something to add talent on the offensive line in order to improve their rushing attack.
Chicago may also need to add players in the secondary. Ha Ha Clinton-Dix will be a free agent after his one-year deal expires, and the Bears will be in the market for a safety. Adding at cornerback wouldn’t hurt, either.
Tight end is a weak spot as well, but the Bears may be better off adding talent through the draft at that position.
Heck, even adding competition at quarterback would serve this team well. Who knows how many poor games Mitchell Trubisky will be afforded as the starter in 2020 before fans start calling for a replacement.
Over Wildcard weekend, we’ll get a good look at some guys who will be looking for new homes this spring. There are other guys who will not see the field, yet will be getting healthy and looking for a new team as well. Let’s take a look at five 2020 free agents, from this weekend, whom the Bears could add this offseason.
