Chicago Bears: Why sticking with Trubisky is the right move
By Jason Parini
Lack of draft picks
Thanks to the trade that sent Khalil Mack to the Bears from the Oakland Raiders, Ryan Pace and Co. are quite limited on selections in 2020.
The Bears don’t have a first and third round pick in the draft thanks to the Mack trade, nor do they have a fourth-round pick as they sent it to the New England Patriots in order to move up to select running back David Montgomery.
In all, the Bears have seven selections in the 2020 draft. They hold a second-rounder, three fifth-rounders, a sixth and seventh-round pick in April.
That significantly limits what the club can do in the draft. It also difficult to fully trust the front office to make the right decisions to move forward in the draft, as the club has historically been atrocious in their selections with even the most handsome of draft slots.
While it’s quite possible that the club will try to acquire some more picks via trade, it’s also quite possible that they won’t be able to get a coveted first or second-round selection.
So given the number of weaknesses that the Bears have to improve on, they’re better off sticking with Trubisky and focusing on other holes in the team.
