It’s clear that the Chicago Bears quarterback situation has no direction and that needs to change fast.

If you watched the Chicago Bears season-ending press conference, you’d know that general manager Ryan Pace committed to Mitchell Trubisky as the starter for the 2020 season. But here’s the deal: Don’t trust what Pace says because he was likely saying that to get everyone off his back about any potential questions about Trubisky.

See the reality of things is that Trubisky regressed so much in 2019, things have gotten to the point now where Pace and head coach Matt Nagy currently have zero answers regarding what to do about the quarterback position.

The goal going into 2019 was simple: If Trubisky takes the next step and elevates his play, the Bears would be true Super Bowl contenders. Instead, Trubisky regressed to the point where the Bears will need to address the quarterback position again in the offseason.

The reason the Bears quarterback situation has no direction right now is that you’re not sure of what’s going to happen.  You’ve got a second overall pick on your roster, who’s coming off his third year in the NFL and he’s yet to show that he can even be a quality quarterback in this league. Forget about being a franchise quarterback, Trubisky hasn’t even shown that he can be a quality starter.

But let’s be honest: All it will take is a good move for the Bears to potentially get things moving in the right direction. While most would view trading for a guy like Cam Newton the one thing that will get everything moving in the right direction, there’s a lot that the Bears could do such as bring in a veteran via free agency to push Trubisky.

dark. Next. Bears: A long offseason now set to begin

Overall, it’s clear that many Bears fans are ready to move on from Trubisky. However, nobody knows what ownership and the coaching staff want to do. As the arrow continues to point sideways, the best thing to do is just wait and see as to what happens next. The Bears will have two opportunities this offseason to bring in guys to challenge Trubisky. Much like the kicker situation last year, Nagy and Pace need to go all-in in regards to finding a quarterback. The Bears cannot afford to waste another championship-level defense due to shaky quarterback play.
