Chicago Bears: Early 2020 NFL Draft prospects to keep an eye on
By Usayd Koshul
5. Anthony Gordon, QB, Washington State
It’s no secret that the Bears need an overhaul at the quarterback position in 2020. While Mitchell Trubisky will still be here, the Bears need to find a quality backup to develop for the future. This is why Anthony Gordon makes sense. Despite being just a one-year starter at Washington State under Mike Leach, Gordon has shown enough to prove that he deserves consideration as a backup quarterback.
In his first full year as a stater, Gordon would post video game-like numbers with 5579 passing yards, 48 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. To go along with that, Gordon would also post 8.1 yards per passing attempt. It’s clear that he’s a guy who can be relied on to be the focal point of an offense and keep the ball moving.
Gordon doesn’t have the biggest arm but there are still a lot of things that he does really well when it comes to playing quarterback. All throughout 2019, his pocket awareness, anticipation, and decision making were on full display.
At the next level, Gordon will be a guy who will enter training camp as a guy who will need a year to develop. There are aspects to his game such as his footwork that needs to improve but overall, he’s a guy that is certainly worth taking a chance on because a team wouldn’t lose much by drafting him.
