Chicago Bears: 3 Fiesta Bowl 2020 NFL Draft prospects to watch
We examine a few prospects in the Fiesta Bowl who could be targets for the Chicago Bears.
If you want to watch quality football next weekend, your best bet is to avoid the Chicago Bears game against the Minnesota Vikings. Instead, you may want to focus on Saturday’s slate of college games — in particular the Playstation Fiesta Bowl.
The primetime matchup should be a delight, as the Ohio State Buckeyes take on the Clemson Tigers in an evenly matched game.
There will be countless future NFL starters who will take the field Saturday night, including the likely crown jewel of the 2021 NFL Draft, Trevor Lawrence. However, the Bears focus is on the 2020 NFL Draft, and how they can improve their team to try to salvage this championship window that is quickly slamming shut.
With that in mind, we look at a few players you might want to keep an eye on as you enjoy this marquis matchup.
Jeffrey Okudah, CB – Ohio State
Jeffrey Okudah is a phenomenal cornerback prospect who is unlikely to be available when the Bears make their first selection in the second round, but we included him here because, well, anything is possible. I mean, maybe a dozen other NFL GMs fall in love with tight ends from Ashland University . . . but I digress.
If somehow Okudah slips to the second round, the Bears must run to the podium to select him with their first pick of the round. He is a lockdown corner with great size and ball skills who would be a plug and play replacement for Prince Amukamara, who may not return next season.
Damon Arnette, CB – Ohio State
If the Bears aren’t able to land Okudah, his running mate, Damon Arnette, would not be a bad consolation prize at all. He’s another long and physical corner who has had a very productive career at Ohio State. According to Pro Football Reference, he had 21 pass breakups and five interceptions.
Arnette recently received an invite to the Senior Bowl, so fans who can’t catch this game, will have another shot to see him in action before the draft.
Tremayne Anchrum, OT – Clemson
Tremayne Anchrum has had a very solid year for the Clemson Tigers, helping to keep their start quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, upright. While he plays the tackle position, many draft outlets have him listed as a guard. While it remains to be seen what position he will play at the next level, the Bears could use an offensive lineman with a little versatility.
