A fifth-round pick that ended up being a major bright spot on the offense during his rookie season, Jordan Howard was without a doubt one of the best players that the Bears found on day three of the NFL Draft back in 2016.

Entering his first training camp with the Bears, Howard was listed as the fourth-string running back on the team’s first depth chart. However, come week four of the 2016 season, Howard would rush for 111 yards while catching three receptions for 21 yards. This would then be the beginning of a very special rookie season in Chicago that saw 1313 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Over the next two years, Howard would rush for 2057 yards and 18 touchdowns despite averaging just under four yards per carry. Although his real value came only as a power runner, he still was able to make a name for himself as a moderate asset in the passing game with 72 receptions over a three-year period averaging 7.9 yards per reception.

During the 2019 offseason, the Bears would trade Howard to the Philadelphia Eagles, a trade that has clearly hurt the Bears. Howard was never a dual-threat running back but he was at least an effective power runner, which is something that is needed for an offense to properly function when the weather gets colder in Chicago during November and December.
