Scouting Report. OLB. Leonard Floyd. player. Pick Analysis. 2016, Round 1, 9th overall. 9. 57

A first-round pick back in 2016, the Bears traded up two spots to grab Leonard Floyd, who has never really stuffed the stat sheet but has still managed to have an impact on games. Floyd’s game is mainly built around speed but he does lack the power to beat stronger offensive lineman.

During his first two seasons in Chicago, Floyd was unable to stay on the field consistently due to injuries. In his rookie season, he dealt with multiple concussions and his second year was cut short due to a knee injury.

Currently, the Bears fanbase is split on Floyd. On one hand, you’ve got people saying that he’s an excellent second option who may not necessarily stuff the stat sheet but continues to create opportunities for other players. Then, on the other hand, you’ve got people who say that he has not lived up his draft status as a player who was a top ten pick.

In fact, Floyd’s numbers have declined every year since he’s been in Chicago. As a rookie, he showed tons of promise with 7.5 sacks, however, since then, he’s only got a total of 11.5 sacks which averages out to about 3.8 sacks per season.

While Floyd, who’s contract guarantees that he will be in Chicago until at least the end of 2020 has been a solid player, he’s been far from great. At some point, the Bears will need to make a decision on whether or not they want to extend him and right now, it’s looking like he could get an extension but it might not be a very lucrative one unless he begins to step up and there is a massive spike in his production.
