If there’s one player on this list that burst onto the scene during his rookie season, it’s Roquan Smith. As a rookie in 2018, Smith had 121 tackles, five sacks, eight tackles for loss, and five quarterback hits. After missing all of training camp during his first year, Smith still managed to put together one of the most impressive rookie seasons the Bears had seen in a long time.
Heading into year two, the expectations for Smith were higher than ever. The flashes he showed during year one all but gave people confidence that he was ready to be the next great Bears linebacker.

While seeing him in the same category as guys like Brian Urlacher and Mike Singletary seems to be some lofty expectations, Smith continues to improve and it seems that he’s yet to realize his true potential.
While his second season has been cut short due to a pectoral injury, Smith still has a promising future as being one of the NFLs best middle linebackers well into the 2020s. Once he returns and is fully healthy in 2020 it will perhaps be time for his true breakout season that will see him finally ascend into one of the NFLs best defensive players.
