The Chicago Blackhawks were about to lose to the Colorado Avalanche for the fourth time in a month before staging an impressive comeback.

The Chicago Blackhawks have had a terrible time this season with the Colorado Avalanche. They have been subjected to some ugly games against them that saw them lose every single time. They went into their Saturday night game looking to avoid being swept in their season series against the Avs. It looked like that was going to be the case once again before the Blackhawks mounted a third-period comeback.

The Blackhawks were trailing the Avalanche 3-1 halfway through the third period. It was looking like they were in major danger of losing the game being down two with only ten minutes left in the game. Instead, they showed fight and score three goals over a span of five minutes. Then they added the empty-net goal to make it 5-3 and seal their second win in a row. They got their first win of the season against the Colorado Avalanche to avoid the sweep.

It was clear that in order for the Blackhawks to have a good showing against the Avalanche they needed to slow down superstar Nathan MacKinnon and his wingers Gabriel Landeskog and Mikko Rantanen. The Blackhawks did a great job and kept all three of them off the scoresheet. That played a major part in them figuring out a way to win because if any of those three made an impact on the scoresheet the Avalanche probably would have won. It is even more impressive because it was in Colorado so coach Jared Bednar had the matchup game to his advantage.

It was also clear that the big boys would need to step up in order for the Blackhawks to get the win. Jonathan Toews had a really good offensive game for the first time in a while as he scored one goal and added in two assists. When the captain steps in and generates some offense, the Blackhawks will always have a chance to win.

Patrick Kane, however, runs the offensive ship for the Chicago Blackhawks and has for the past decade. He had one goal and one assist in the game to help lead the Hawks to victory. The Hawks have three wins in their last four games and in those three wins, Kane has nine points. He is the offensive catalyst on this team so if he goes well so does the team.

The Blackhawks have one more game before the mandatory holiday break. They have a new look New Jersey Devils team coming over to the United Center on Monday night. This is going to be a tough matchup for both teams as neither has lived up to some decent expectations this season. They both have some high-end skill but neither has a whole lot of depth right now. Both teams play fast and can create offense but neither team is very good at playing defense. This should be a good game for all fans of hockey.
