2. Resting Mitchell Trubisky during Preseason.

The handling of the players in the preseason could have been the reason for a slow start in 2019. Mitchell Trubisky only handing the ball of a few times in preseason isn’t good enough. As a young quarterback, Trubisky needs a few series a game in the preseason to get his rhythm back. That is what preseason was made for.

More from Da Windy City

Trubisky started off the 2019 season rough. He had two bad games to start the season, then he got better. He tore up the Washington Redskins’ defense on Monday Night Football to show he was still the same guy.

The problem that lingered him after the Redskins’ victory was his shoulder. The next week he would tear his labrum in his right shoulder during the first drive. It would affect the whole season in a bad-light after that.

Trubisky would have the wear a harness on his throwing shoulder. The harness limits the movement of the shoulder and makes things harder on him. He would miss some key throws in big moments. It would turn the city of Chicago against him.

Of course, though, none of this “can” be Nagy’s fault. Even though a coach can’t control when a player is injured, they can control their time in the preseason. If Trubisky would have been able to throw the ball in the preseason, he would have played a lot better to start the season. Trubisky’s confidence was ruined when he would miss throws he knows he could make. Part of it has to do with his shoulder injury.

So in 2020, Trubisky needs time with his offense during the preseason. I’m not saying play him the full game. I’m just asking for three-to-four series and then pull him.
