2. In 2018, the Chiefs averaged 35.3 points per game, however, in 2019, this number has dipped to 28.1 points per game. What is the biggest reason that offensive production has taken a step back?

Oleszczak: Well, the biggest and easiest thing to point to would be injuries. Mahomes missed two full games earlier this season and while Matt Moore did fine, the offense wasn’t quite the same threat with him under center. The offensive line has been beaten up, leading to more pressure on Mahomes and a less than stellar run game. There also hasn’t really been a receiver to step up other than Tyreek Hill and he was out for a few games earlier this year too. It was only a matter of time before the offense cooled off a bit and that’s what we’ve seen this year with the Chiefs.

Takeaway: Injuries have been a major factor in the Chiefs decline in offensive production. Essentially, what this shows is that guys like Mahomes and Tyreek Hill are very valuable to the Chiefs offensive production. Also, while rookie Mecole Hardman is having a nice season, the focal point of the Chiefs offense continues to be Hill which further proves that Hill is a guy that the Bears will need to consistently slow down on Sunday night. Additionally, many seem to underestimate the impact that the offensive line has on the Chiefs entire offense.

When the offensive line is at full strength, guys like Mahomes are able to fully operate the offense. However, with a banged up offensive line, the Bears will need to get to Mahomes quickly before guys like Hill get into open space where they are dangerous and can make anything happen at any moment.
