Patrick Kane makes it a tolerable weekend for the Chicago Blackhawks
The Chicago Blackhawks were able to make it an okay weekend thanks to the elite play of Patrick Kane. Kane and the Hawks avoided disaster.
The Chicago Blackhawks knew that they needed to at least have a somewhat decent weekend in order for the ship to not completely sink. They didn’t get off to a great start in their first game of the weekend but thanks to some help from Patrick Kane, the Blackhawks were able to snag a few standings points. Whenever he elevates his game there is potential for the team to win the game. That needs to be the case more often than not for Chicago.
The first game on Saturday night. The Hawks were up 3-0 in the third period. Kane had the goal that put Chicago up 3-0 but things fell apart from there. The St. Louis Blues scored four unanswered goals in the third period to give themselves the 4-3 victory in regulation. It was one of the more demoralizing defeats the team has had this year. There was a reason to believe that this could have been the end for someone in the organization but they didn’t make any changes following the game.
Instead, they went back to Chicago and took on a hot Minnesota Wild team. Both teams were on the second half of a back to back so it was definitely an even playing field. The Hawks rode a hat trick from Patrick Kane to avoid another disaster game. They were winning 2-0 but blew that lead as well. They went into the third tied at three but they scored twice in the third to give themselves a win. Brandon Saad scored on a deflection followed by Patrick Kane’s hat trick goal into an empty net. It was a very entertaining game from start to finish.
Minnesota Wild forward Eric Staal scored his 1000th point on a power-play goal in this one. He isn’t a Blackhawks but that is definitely some history that took place at the United Center. Stall and the Wild were coming off a dominant 4-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers the night before so this is clearly a quality win for a Blackhawks team that needed one in the worst way possible.
This strong showing against the Wild saved the weekend for being a very tough one. There is no telling if the coach or GM will make it through the year but you would think they’re now safe for at least another game. There is no telling what would happen if Patrick Kane didn’t show up in the final game of the weekend. They now have the next two days off but the very dangerous Colorado Avalanche invades the United Center on Wednesday night. This will be another ginormous test for the Chicago Blackhawks.
