Chicago Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky silenced his doubters with a great performance in a big win over the Cowboys on Thursday night. The Bears look smart for not giving up on their young signal-caller.

The Chicago Bears came into Thursday night’s matchup against the Dallas Cowboys at 6-6 and desperately needing a win to stay in the playoff hunt. They didn’t disappoint as they pulled off a 31-24 victory thanks in large part to quarterback Mitch Trubisky.

It’s been a tough year for Trubisky who disappointed those fans that expected him to take a major step forward in his production this year. He’s had a lot of trouble throwing the ball deep and still struggles at times with accuracy.

But it seemed as if Trubisky was finding his groove coming into this game. He put up good numbers and limited turnovers during a four-game stretch in which the team went 3-1 leading up to this game. All eyes were on him against the Cowboys.

It didn’t start well as Dallas stunned the vaunted Bears defense on their first drive of the game. The team went 75 yards on 17 plays and took almost nine minutes off the clock before running back Ezekiel Elliott punched the ball in from the two-yard line.

It was 7-0 before Trubisky even took the field, and it seemed as if he may crack under the pressure of the moment. He led the team down the field on their first drive but gave up an interception on a great play by Cowboys cornerback Jourdan Lewis.

That opening drive interception frustrated Bears fans. But from that point, it was a completely different day for Trubisky. After going down 7-0, the offense rattled off 24 unanswered points on some great offensive drives by the Bears.

The Cowboys inept special teams unit helped the Bears with consistent good starting field position. But Trubisky and the Bears were able to effectively move the ball in the air and on the ground throughout the night.

In my opinion, it was the best performance of the season for both Trubisky and his offensive line. Trubisky finally used his talent as a scrambler to pick up big rushing yards and first downs. It’s something Bears fans were clamoring for all season.

Trubisky had  63 rushing yards on 10 carries and rushed for a touchdown on a great scramble. He also threw for three touchdowns, two of which went to wideout Allen Robinson.

Fans and analysts called for Trubisky to lose his job earlier this season, and at the time it seemed warranted based on his poor play. But the Bears coaching staff has done a good job of figuring out how to best showcase Trubisky’s talents while hiding his weaknesses.

With Trubisky running the ball for first downs, he seemed to brim with confidence as the game went on. The Bears were fully in control as they were up 31-14 in the fourth quarter before the Cowboys added points in garbage time.

Regarding Trubisky, it’d be hard to imagine the Bears not picking up his fifth-year option during the offseason. That was a topic up for debate when the Bears were mired in a losing streak, but it seems they’ve moved past that rough patch.

Trubisky continued his hot streak with this win, but the team’s biggest game of the season will come next week when they face the rival Green Bay Packers on the road. Will Trubisky stay rolling against a tough Packers defense?

That question will determine the Bears playoff chances this year. While it once seemed that all hope was lost, Trubisky has unexpectedly helped right this ship.
