Disappointment #1: Head Coach Jim Boylen

There are so many reasons why Jim Boylen is a horrible fit for the Bulls and just a bad head coach in general. I could go on and on about Boylen’s faults, but my biggest issue with him is his unwillingness to share responsibility for this team’s poor start.

Instead, Boylen resorts to repeatedly throwing his players under the bus. There are issues with this Bulls team on offense and defense, but for Boylen to act as if it all comes down to player effort is laughable.

Not only has Boylen completely lost his locker room, but he’s an embarrassment to a franchise that had a terrible reputation before hiring him. Boylen’s idiotic idea of having players punch in on a literal time clock during the preseason clearly didn’t have an impact.

The Bulls defense continues to get torched by terrible teams, and a lot of it comes down to Boylen’s stubbornness on his defensive scheme. Boylen loves to blitz the pick and roll on defense as part of the aggressive team culture he’s trying to instill.

The NBA has figured him out. Still, Boylen won’t adapt and insists that this worn down strategy will somehow work eventually. What’s clear is that this is costing the team winnable games.

Boylan needed to be fired last season, but this franchise is full of people who’ve been undeservedly employed way too long.
