Bulls: Boylen building a ‘Field of Nightmares’

At this point, the head coach of the Chicago Bulls is bordering on the absurd.

What do the Chicago Bulls and the 1989 Kevin Costner classic “Field of Dreams” have in common? I honestly have no idea, but apparently Jim Boylen does.

His putrid coaching record and on-the-court results are bad enough. His post-game smugness and silly grins are entirely unbearable for fans who want to reach through the screen, grab ahold of him, and ask ‘what the heck is so funny?’

But now he is resorting to nonsensical movie quotes in defense of his indefensible coaching resume.

Boylen was asked about his team’s performance and he mentioned that if the team continues to play hard and play together, that the “wins will come.” The follow-up question, naturally given the overwhelming evidence to the contrary provided thus far during Boylen’s tenure, was “what makes you think the wins will come?”

Boylen didn’t pause to reflect before providing a cogent, coherent response. Nope. Instead, he summoned his inner Michael Scott and legitimately replied, “if you build it, they will come.” As if the response wasn’t bad enough, Boylen had the nerve to glance away from the reporter with a dismissive look on his face as if the question was so absurd

If I could give you one piece of advice Jim, it would be to spare the Chicago Bulls fanbase with your pathetic attempt at humor. It comes off as smug, and out of touch with reality, which is that your team is an embarrassment on the court. Your making light of the situation does nothing but underscore the incompetence with which you have led this team. It’s not kitschy or affable. It’s just downright dumb.

Outside of yourself and John Paxson, no one believes you are building anything more than a steaming pile of manure ready to collapse at any minute. Absolutely no one sees the value or utility in your draconian coaching methods or your rigid inflexibility to adapt to, you know, the modern NBA.

So when you deliver a ridiculous answer to a legitimate and reasonable question, all you do is remind Bulls fans that you are a nightmare from which there appears to be no waking.
