On the road in Week 13, Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky was finally able to have a breakout game.

On a Thursday afternoon that saw the Chicago Bears trailing by three points late in the fourth quarter against the division-rival Detroit Lions, Mitch Trubisky made key plays that allowed the Bears to finally get back on track and then win the game.

Earlier in the game, despite having an interception on ball that was not placed correctly, Trubisky rebounded and had two other touchdowns as well while looking calm and poised the entire afternoon. He’d finish the day throwing for 338 yards and three touchdowns.

Essentially, this can be considered as a breakout game for Trubisky, who’s looked more and more comfortable over the last three games operating the Bears offense. Has he been perfect? Nope. But he been totally terrible? Not really. In other words, Trubisky has been the driving force behind the Bears offensive turnaround.

Overall, all throughout the afternoon, Trubisky continued to be the reason that the Bears offense was able to move the ball efficiently. He did have some mistakes but there was still more good done than harm.

While it’s crazy to think that Trubisky’s best performance of the season came against a three-win team, there’s still room to be encouraged and from here on out, Trubisky’s arrow can either go two ways. First, maybe Trubisky’s arrow is pointing up and he is putting it all together just in time for the Bears to make a playoff run. Or second, maybe his arrow continues to point sideways and he ends up not having a strong performance in the Bears’ next game. Or maybe he’s just getting back to his 2018 form that saw him merely be a game manager.

Whatever the situation is, it’s clear that Trubisky is trending upwards. However, just because he’s finishing the 2019 season strong, this in no way means that he’s going to be the starter in 2020. The Bears should still bring a new quarterback in next offseason to challenge Trubisky.

dark. Next. Chicago Bulls; Have Bulls finally hit rockbottom?

Over the final four games of the season, the Bears will face the Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs, and Minnesota Vikings. While all of those opponents will be tough challenges, Trubisky will need to show out in a big way to change the narrative around him.
