Bulls may have finally hit rock bottom
After last night’s embarrassing loss, have the Chicago Bulls finally hit rock bottom?
Could things get any worse for the Chicago Bulls? I mean, literally, I suppose they could, but practically speaking, how could the team sink lower than it did after last night’s performance?
The team went into Golden State to take on a significantly depleted Warriors team that was without Stephen Curry (lost for the season) and D’Angelo Russell, along with quality role player James Looney.
Despite that, and despite being 2-point favorites on the road, Jim Boylen’s team made a mess down their leg en route to a 14 point loss to the now 4-15 Warriors. Even in a game where Zach LaVine dropped 36 points, they managed to get thoroughly eviscerated by the team with the worst record in the NBA.
For a team that is coming off a 17-51 record last year, and has seemingly been embroiled in controversy and drama since Boylen took over, last night’s game in which the team simply existed on the court, was not a good look.
They showed very little “want to” on the court, playing as though nothing about this season mattered so long as the direction of the club is still set by John Paxson, Gar Forman, and Jim Boylen. They played like a team that wanted to show the owner that changes are needed.
The Warriors ended the game on an 18-8 run and dominated the Bulls down the stretch. Overall, the team shot 38 percent from the field and allowed Golden State to connect on 46 percent of their shots despite Boylen’s repeated emphasis on playing tough defense. Again, was that a shot across the bow of their head coach?
Remember, it was only a day ago that the report emerged about Jerry Reinsdorf being livid about the team’s start. Immediately after that report, the team comes out and lays an egg against the worst team in the NBA? Coincidence? Possibly — or maybe the players are just as fed up as the fans.
If you watched last night’s game, you saw a team and a franchise in crisis. You saw a head coach who appears on the verge of losing the entire locker room. Will you see an owner take action as he sits on the precipice of losing the fan base? I guess we’ll see.
