With the Chicago Bears likely looking for a quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft, there is one prospect who could be the long-term solution.

In his third full season in the NFL, Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky has seemingly taken a giant step backward in his development. For a team entering the year with playoff and Super Bowl aspirations, Mitch and the offense’s historically anemic offense has been their Achilles heel and truly the only thing holding them back from reaching their goals.

Although Mitch has looked mildly better in his last three games against the Los Angeles Rams, Detroit Lions, and New York Giants, on balance, he is a long way from where he needs to be considering he was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Consequently, you can expect the Bears to address the quarterback position this offseason. While it could add a marquee free agent, it will be somewhat limited in what they can do in this regard due to salary cap limitations. Even if they pursue this route, it would be surprising if they didn’t also select one in the 2020 draft to develop for the future.

Without a first-round pick, they will not have a shot at a Joe Burrow or Tua Tagovailoa, and likely won’t have enough juice to move up for a Justin Herbert or Jacob Eason. A player like Jordan Love offers a unique skill set, but has been way too inconsistent this season and may scare off the Bears who might not want an unpolished player. That would leave them with Jalen Hurts and Jake Fromm as options, though Fromm is not guaranteed to declare and Hurts may also be gone by the time the Bears make their first pick.

Instead, they may take a look at a player who checks a number of boxes in terms of what you would want in a franchise quarterback and, as of now, could be available in the mid-rounds. Of course, I’m talking about Washington State’s Anthony Gordon.

If you’ve been following along at home, you know I have been behind the wheel of the Anthony Gordon bandwagon for some time now. I even highlighted him as one of five candidates the Bears could consider in the draft.

Recently, I had the opportunity to sit down with former Washington State quarterback Alex Brink, who provided a terrific breakdown of Gordon’s skills and potential at the next level. But before we get to that, let’s take a look at what Gordon has accomplished so far in 2019.
