Bears: 5 bold options for Chicago’s quarterback room in 2020
By Ryan Heckman
Tandem No. 4: Mitchell Trubisky, Teddy Bridgewater and Anthony Gordon
This trio is a bold call for a couple of reasons. First of all, signing a guy like Teddy Bridgewater would require the Bears to pay a premium. With so many roster questions going into the future years — whether it be cuts or possible extensions — the Bears would have to clear some cap room. Bridgewater very well could command upwards of $25 million annually.
After all, he did fill in nicely for Drew Brees this season and kept the New Orleans Saints up atop their division while continuing to look like an NFC powerhouse.
With Bridgewater signed and Trubisky returning, the other part of this bold scenario is that the Bears draft Anthony Gordon out of Washington State. This would mean, for the first time in a while, the Bears would keep three quarterbacks on their roster.
Gordon is currently leading the FBS in passing yards with 4,314 and has tossed 39 touchdowns to just 11 interceptions. Ultimately, the plan would be for Gordon to come in and compete with Trubisky for the backup spot, with Bridgewater starting. However, if the Bears move on from Trubisky after 2020, Gordon becomes a staple as the backup.
