Bears: 5 bold options for Chicago’s quarterback room in 2020
By Ryan Heckman
Tandem No. 2: Mitchell Trubisky and Cam Newton
This idea has gotten even bolder by the second, as the Carolina Panthers saw, by far, the worst performance out of Kyle Allen yet this past week. Up until this point, many wonders whether or not the Panthers would be willing to move on from Cam Newton this offseason due to the fact that Allen has played so well in his place.
With Allen causing all to pause after throwing four interceptions against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 11, I’m sure there are several Panthers fans hoping to see Newton stick around after all.
Yet, there’s always the possibility of Allen proving he can bounce back from a poor performance and continuing the narrative that Newton might be dealt in the spring.
Should Newton be on the block, I’m assuming the Panthers would want a decent enough haul in return via trade. But, they would also save a ton of cash by cutting him as well. It’s going to be a delicate situation, should Newton be available for trade.
If Newton came in, there would be no speculation as to who the starter is. Trubisky would be the backup, no doubt, and would have to understand he’s playing for his NFL future elsewhere from that point on.
