The Chicago Blackhawks didn’t play well for the first 45 minutes of the game but they didn’t give up and found their game at the end but it wasn’t enough.

The Chicago Blackhawks were trying to extend their long winning streak to five games when they welcomed the Carolina Hurricanes to the United Center on Tuesday night. On Patrick Kane‘s 31st birthday you knew that you could expect some fireworks from and you could say that you were right if you thought that. The Blackhawks lost the game 4-2 but it wasn’t your typical 4-2 hockey game.

The Blackhawks actually didn’t really play that well early on in the game. The Carolina Hurricanes got out to a 3-0 lead and held it all the way until the third period. The Blackhawks started to find their game and Patrick Kane created some plays to help two defensemen, Erik Gustafsson and Connor Murphey, score goals to make it a one-goal game. That would not be enough though as Carolina would put it in the empty net and seal the victory.

The referees missed a blatant cross-checking call on Sebastian Aho of Carolina on Patrick Kane which would have given the Blackhawks a 6-4 advantage with the goalie pulled. You can’t blame the refs on a loss but that certainly could have changed the outcome of the game. After the empty-net goal, Kane stood up for himself and went up to Aho and a few pleasantries were exchanged.

The good news about this game is that they proved they don’t give up. They are loaded with talent and can score goals quickly. Guys like Kane, Alex DeBrincat, Jonathan Toews, Dylan Strome, and Brandon Saad are all playing well and it is paying off. The Hurricanes are a deep team and should be a playoff team once again so it is okay to accept this loss and learn from it. Sometimes you lose to good teams and that is what happened here.

The Blackhawks are back in action when they host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night. This Lightning team is very confusing because they have an elite roster but they certainly haven’t played up to their strengths yet this season. The Blackhawks will need to be very careful with this team on Thursday otherwise things could get ugly. This could also be a good time to catch the Lightning because they are definitely struggling.
