Mitch Trubisky has managed to crack the top 10 in an important Chicago Bears category. This stat shows how inept Bears quarterbacks have been over the years.

The Chicago Bears have been a historically bad franchise when it comes to quarterbacks. Until Jay Cutler came along (and don’t get us started on him) just about every major Bears QB record dated back to World War II when the team was led by Hall of Famer Sid Luckman.

After trading up a spot to draft Mitch Trubisky in the 2017 NFL Draft, Bears fans hoped that they had finally found a franchise quarterback.

Though he struggled in parts of 2018, Trubisky was surrounded by hype and high hopes heading into the 2019 campaign.

Alas, 2019 has been a bitter disappointment to say the least. After falling to 4-6 after their abysmal loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night, any hope that the Bears had of making the playoffs was left behind at the LA Coliseum.

Trust in Trubisky is nearly non-existent, as it seems that everyone from the fanbase to the coaching staff has lost faith in the third-year quarterback’s abilities.

According to ESPN, he’s 29th in total QBR and 27th in points added with -12.4. Yet somehow, Trubisky is already making his way up the Bears quarterback records list.

To show just how historically inept Bears quarterbacks have been over the years, consider this astonishing statistic.

Are you ready?

Mitch Trubisky is already ninth in career passing yards in Bears franchise history.

You read that correctly. NINTH.

Though he’s only played in 35 games in his career (equivalent to just just 2.19 seasons), Trubisky has accumulated 6,996 passing yards. He’s 115 yards behind Bob Avellini for eighth.

That means that assuming Tru passes for over 115 yards in his next game, he’ll be eighth all-time in Bears career passing yards in just two and a quarter seasons.

Ouch. If that doesn’t show just how bad the Bears QB play has been for over half a century, I don’t know what will.

He’s 2,702 yards behind Ed Brown for seventh all-time.

It’s hard to say where Trubisky will end up on the list, as there’s a real possibility that the team will move on from him after the 2019 season. If that’s the case, then he’ll probably end up at seventh at best.

Even so, it’s pretty astonishing that it’s taken just over two seasons to crack the top ten in career passing yards.

It’s a good thing no one has started a “quarterback jersey” for the Chicago Bears like one Cleveland Browns fan did dating back to 1999. That list would be nearly a football field in length.
