Coby White has come on strong the last couple of games for the Chicago Bulls, and is giving the team exactly what it has needed.

We all remember Ben Gordon, the streaky shooter who, when he got hot, was a lot of fun to watch. These 2019-2020 Chicago Bulls may have found a similar player in Coby White, however the rookie is bringing even more to the table than Gordon ever did.

Over the last few years, the Bulls have lacked a perimeter presence in someone who can create for themselves. They had desperately needed a ball-handling perimeter player. Never mind the fact that they’ve needed to address the point guard position for quite some time now. It seems they indeed found both in the rookie out of North Carolina.

You look at a lot of the great guards in this league like Stephen Curry, D’Angelo Russell and Kyrie Irving and one thing they have in common is the ability to not only handle the ball and distribute, but shoot the deep ball as well.

White started the season a little rocky, putting up some good games with a few stinkers in between. But, over his last two, White seems to have found his niche.

In his last two outings, White has taken 37 shots, with 24 of them coming from 3-point distance. Here’s the crazy part, though — he’s made 13 of those from long range, while scoring 53 points total in those games.

The Bulls are seeing a kid who is unafraid to take big shots in big moments. Whether or not they go in, White will continue to shoot. He’s becoming the high-volume shooter and scorer the Bulls needed — but, he’s doing it while playing a combo guard position, which is what many of the great guards do today.

The Bulls haven’t had a guy like this in a long, long time. Heck, even Derrick Rose never truly had a 3-point shot while with the Bulls. White is a different guy than Bulls fans are used to seeing out there.

The team, itself, has underlying issues to why they’re not winning games. Head coach Jim Boylen has thrown out some head-scratching lineups at times, but White’s performances stand out above the mediocrity of his coach.

The Bulls may not be winning games at the moment, but White’s play, as of late, has given fans a reason to believe the future has something special down the line. if White continues to develop at this rate, while becoming “the” guy for the Bulls, this team could be looking at a 2019-2020 NBA Rookie of the Year favorite.
