Chicago Bears 2020 NFL Mock Draft: Midseason Edition

1. Round Two, Pick 46: TE Brycen Hopkins, Purdue
If the Bears want to finally solve the mystery that is the tight end position, then the first of the Bears two second-round picks needs to be a tight end. Brycen Hopkins figures to be the first tight end off the board in 2020 and for multiple reasons, too. A few of Hopkins’ good qualities are his ability to be a solid route runner and his ability to line up in the slot and be a mismatch weapon. Throughout his career at Purdue, Hopkins has averaged 14.7 yards per reception and has seen his workload increase each year.
Like any draft prospect, if there’s one area of his game that Hopkins can improve, it’s his run blocking. He’s not the strongest run blocker which is a problem considering run blocking is the only thing that seems to be hindering him from being a more complete tight end.
He’s also the kind of player that can come in and contribute right away which is going to be important for the Bears since the tight end position is in many ways a focal point of the offense. As of right now, Hopkins figures to go in the second-round considering many teams will end up targeting positions such as quarterback, wide receiver, and cornerback in the first-round. With a strong scouting combine, Hopkins could propel himself into first-round conversation so he’ll be a name to closely monitor throughout the draft process.
