Blackhawks vs Golden Knights: Chicago defeats Vegas for first time ever
The Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Vegas Golden Knights for the first time in their history and it was an incredibly entertaining game.
This is the third season that the Vegas Golden Knights have been in business and they are already one of the most successful teams in the National Hockey League. They made it to the Stanley Cup Final in year one and followed it up with another playoff appearance the following year. They are trying to make it three years in a row this year and they certainly have the cast to do it. The Chicago Blackhawks have felt the wrath of that more than any team in the league during the regular season.
It has specifically hurt the Blackhawks because in the first two seasons the Blackhawks were not able to get a single win against Vegas. It didn’t matter if it was in Chicago or Las Vegas, they weren’t able to get it done. The two teams met in Chicago earlier this season and it looked like the Blackhawks were finally going to pull through. They allowed Vegas to tie it late and eventually win in the shootout.
This game in Vegas was a huge opportunity for the Blackhawks to finally get a win. They went down 2-0 early and it wasn’t looking good for them. They put it all together though and thanks to some help from Corey Crawford, they scored five unanswered goals and won the game 5-3. It was a great game for the Blackhawks and there is a reason to believe they can continue to win games.
They have started playing a game that fits the makeup of their roster and it has been working. They trade chances and rely on their goaltending to bail them out when they give up these high danger chances. That is how they started to win some games last year and it has been working a little bit lately. It might not be a recipe for success in the playoffs but you have to make it to the playoffs first. This game was another step in the right direction.
Patrick Kane has been reunited with Alex DeBrincat and Dylan Strome over the last few games and it has clicked like no Blackhawks line combination has this season. They can create when they establish the zone, off the rush, and on the power play. These three are gifted offensive players, especially Kane, and the team goes as they go. When they have success, the team is going to have success.
The Blackhawks are idle until Saturday night when they visit an old friend. The Nashville Predators are still a great team and they believe they are Cup contenders once again. Whether they actually are or not still remains to be seen, but the Blackhawks are going to get a good test when they visit the music city. Going from Vegas to Nashville is not an easy task but if they can get it done it will be a great confidence booster.
