Chicago Blackhawks: Comparing Robin Lehner and Corey Crawford
Goaltender Robin Lehner
Lehner who was definitely a surprise signing by the Blackhawks in the offseason has exceeded expectations thus far this season.
Goaltending is the most important position on the ice, and everyone on the team expects the goalie to perform well and win them games. Well, Lehner has done that for the Blackhawks.
Lehner is elite, very athletic, and can see the puck very well. He also has the ability to close out games when the Blackhawks have the lead. So far this season, Lehner has given the Blackhawks the best chance to win games, and make the playoffs. Lehner is, by far, one of the best free-agent signings in recent Blackhawks memory
Stats this year for Lehner
- 10 games (9 starts, 4-3-2, 2.51 GAA, and .934 save percentage)
- Second in the league in save percentage (.934)
- Also tied his career-high in saves on Sunday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs (53 saves)
I give a lot of credit to Bowman for finding such a gem in free agency and for pulling the trigger on Lehner. He’s so good and fun to watch in the net.
Another difference between Lehner and Crawford is the goals saved above average. Lehner has a 4.47 GSAA while Crawford has a -3.27 GSAA.
