The Chicago Bears have their work cut out for them as they try to make a comeback in the NFC. The Seattle Seahawks made it that much harder on Monday Night.

Monday Night Football in week 10 was an epic masterpiece of entertainment. The Seattle Seahawks defeated the San Francisco 49ers on an epic overtime field goal in the final seconds. Unfortunately, as entertaining as it was, it was bad news for Chicago Bears fans. That win for Seattle brought the Seahawks’ record to 8-2 which is good enough for the first Wild Card spot in the NFC.

That basically means that even if the Bears are able to jump the 5-4 Los Angeles Rams, Carolina Panthers, and Philadelphia Eagles, it is the 7-3 Minnesota Vikings that they would need to catch. The Vikings defeated the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football so that combined with the Seattle win made it where the Bears basically need to run the table in order to be that second Wild Card team. If the 49ers were able to win, there would have been two 7-3 teams in the Wild Card spots. That would have given the Bears two teams that they could potentially catch instead of just one.

There is a little bit of Illinois flavor on the 49ers which would have made it even cooler if they helped the Bears out. San Francisco quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, is from Arlington Heights, Illinois. He attended Rolling Meadows High School and Eastern Illinois University. 49er kicker, Chase McLaughlin, was signed as an undrafted free agent this week to replace the injured Robbie Gould. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois. All three of those names have Illinois ties but they couldn’t help out the home town team. Garroppolo didn’t have his best game and McLaughlin missed a game-winning field goal.

It is pretty unlikely that the Bears are able to dig themselves out of the hole they are in, but things are now even harder after the results of Sunday and Monday Night Football. Their next game is against a team they are trying to jump in the Los Angeles Rams. They need to recreate what they did in the second half of their most recent game against the Detroit Lions on both offense and defense if they are to win. Just because it is unlikely, doesn’t mean it is impossible.
